In fact, PC OEMs tend to preload so much garbage I recommend just totally formatting the hard drive yourself and reinstalling everything with a real copy of Windows, if you know what you're doing (otherwise you should ask somebody who does to do this for you).

Looking in some detail at all the Roxio posts the only one of interest was one that pointed out HP had a good manual for it on their web site. Turns out to be a different version though. Anyhow, I resolved my question of whether the software is capable of burning ISO images by tossing the whole package out as totally unsupported.

If you haven't been 'bitten' by the problem, you will sooner or later. One other issue with Packet Writing programs, you can only have one packet writing program installed. Packet writing programs are, Sonic DLA, Roxio Drag to Disc and Nero InCD. Also there have been issues with the built in Windows CD burning and packet writing programs, if the Windows CD burning is not disabled.
Alex Feinman's ISO Recorder did what I wanted in moments. Thanks for the suggestions. Bill If you don't have VideoWave or Creator Classic within the version you have, you have a stripped down version, and it has abosolutey nothing to do with Roxio not caring. If you feel Roxio needs to make some management changes, you need to talk to Sonic, which owns the Roxio name and software these days. Yelling at the customers isn't going to get you very far. And I wonder if your instructions are only for a bootable CD for the Operating Sytem - as opposed to, say, making an.ISO for a music CD or video DVD. Trying to drag-and-drop the file seems to work, but then nothing changes to indicate the Roxio received the file or knows what to do with it. Actually my sneaking suspicion is that it's a crippled version which cannot burn image files. If that's the case I sure wish they'd tell me so I wouldn't spend hours trying to get it to work.
What may be different is the availability of update to resolve this, depending upon whether one has a box product, or an OEM version. Dell (and/or HP, and who knows how many other sysmfgs and add-on CD/DVD drive companies) did NOT author the bundled Roxio/Sonic product - they licensed a particular version, and included it with their systems, as added value. A core incompatibility like this, needs to be resolved by Roxio/Sonic, and rolled out to their OEM channels.as a single user, one cannot get (or realistically expect) a response from Roxio/Sonic support directly ('go talk to your OEM'), or the OEM tech support ('go talk to Roxio/Sonic') - perhaps the Box Product (retail versions) users are seeing the same issue? (and can help coordinate some type of resolution between the various authors, 3rd party, and OEM [sales/accounting] agreements, to get a technical solution in place.

Again though, none of them match an actual product name as described on this web site. I'm just trying to figure out how to use it to burn an ISO image file out to a CD on this new machine, which I need to do to run a diagnostic. The program's own help file only mentions ISO in passing and I haven't been able to stumble into a way to convince it to burn the image. It could be a variant of any one of those actually. Keep in mind it is going to be a limited version of it. To find out which it is, open up Creator Classic or Videowave and go to the help -> about. Look for build 8.xx.xx, 9.xx.xx, or 7.xx.xx and post what it is.

This won't fix the DLA problem, however Packet Writing (DLA) and RW media are both the most unreliable method of CD burning. If it's worth burning to a CD, use a CD-R and the regular 'create a data CD' function in Roxio.

If anybody could suggest on as to how I can work around this problem using my Roxio Creator LE I would greatly appreciate it. If you ever buy a pre-built computer, I never recommend using the software they throw in. It's usually of a very low quality and has more to do with advertizing than it does with actually buying real software -- consider all of those free AOL subscriptions OEMs ship with their products. Also, Roxio probably let Dell distribute copies of their 'Dell Edition' software because it was at a loss with features. Your average Dell buyer isn't burning ISOs, and when they hear 'free CD burner!'
