Characters [ ] Sakura Dormitory residents [ ] Sorata Kanda ( 神田 空太, Kanda Sorata) Voiced by: Sorata is the male protagonist of the story. He is a second-year (later third year) student of Suiko, who lives in room 101 of Sakura Dormitory. He was kicked out of the regular dorms after he chose not to give up a stray cat he found. He cannot resist taking in stray cats, and he ends up keeping seven of them in his room. As many of the Sakura Dormitory residents have outstanding grades and art skills, he often feels plain and normal among them. Chihiro, the dorm supervisor, chooses him to take care of Mashiro, the pet girl referenced in the title, and he is, understandably, reluctant to do so but ends up getting used to it. At the end of the thirteenth novel, he confesses to Mashiro.

He is Misaki's childhood friend and has feelings for her, but he feels he is not good enough for her, so he ends up becoming a playboy. He has dated several girls, including Misaki's elder sister, but in the end he breaks up with all of them.

Misaki Kamiigusa ( 上井草 美咲, Kamiigusa Misaki) Voiced by: Misaki is the resident of room 201, a third-year-student of Suiko who later attends Suimei University of the Arts. She is very outgoing and optimistic and Sorata often refers to her as an 'alien'. She has very good grades and is very good at drawing, but the school decided to send her to Sakura Dormitory because she pays too much attention to drawing anime and manga. She is very good at animation and can handle the work required to make one without help from others.

Chihiro Sengoku ( 千石 千尋, Sengoku Chihiro) Voiced by: Chihiro is an art teacher at Suiko and the dorm supervisor of Sakurasou. She is Mashiro's cousin and arranged for her transfer to Suiko. She once wanted to become a professional artist and was a conscientious student while attending Suiko herself. Unfortunately her dreams did not come true for unknown reasons and she became an art teacher. Despite being a teacher, she often gives Sorata improper advice. Perhaps due to her disappointment, she has become cynical and lazy, often foisting undesired tasks, such as looking after Mashiro, on the unfortunate Sorata. She appears to only be interested in drinking and trying to find a man.

And young love. This show is as funny as it is sad, as it is heartwarming as it is beautiful. Hats off to Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo.

Here are my favorite picks for anime like Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo. Keep in my the list is in no particular order. Enjoy the recommendations! It hurts being misunderstood by your peers.

That chemistry between them is what makes them so special to watch. I thought long and hard about my final rating. Admittedly, there are quite a few problems with Sakurasou, such as its romance.

Indeed, I knew there were going to be ecchi in the series, but Sakurasou has more than expected. Finally, it's the story.

Rita keeps trying to get closer to Ryūnosuke much to his anxiety while Sorata finds himself in doubt about the climax of the Nyaboron event and comes with the idea of having the audience shouting their true feelings to power up Nyaboron's attack, which is quickly accepted by his colleagues. 12 'The Power of Love in the Cultural Festival' ' Ai no Pawā in Bunkasai' ( 愛のパワーin文化祭) December 25, 2012 ( 2012-12-25) The Sakura Dormitory group prepares to launch Nyaboron deciding to enjoy themselves and make it a special memory. Nanami cosplays as the heroine as she narrates the story and asks the audience for their support.

Sorata suggests that she move into the cheaper Sakura Dormitory and Nanami agrees. After arriving at Sakura, Nanami insists that she be the one to take care of Mashiro and encounters a lot of troubles when she tries to do so. Sorata takes advantage of the extra time to work on a game to submit to a competition, but after asking Ryūnosuke's opinion on his work, discovers that he has a long way to go.

Sakurasou

Synopsis Sorata Kanda, a high school sophomore living in Sakurasou, the den of their academy's problem children, spends his days being dragged around by the strange residents, swearing he's going to escape Sakurasou one day. One day, Mashiro Shiina, a cute, innocent girl who's also a world-famous artist, moves into the dorm. Sorata thought he needed to protect Mashiro from the strange people living in the dorm, but she had her own incredible secret—she's bankrupt of the ability to live on her own! She gets lost whenever she goes outside, her room is a constant mess, and she can't even pick out her own underwear, let alone put them on. Sorata winds up appointed as her “owner” by the other dorm students, and so the “master and pet” life between average boy, Sorata, and brilliant girl Mashiro begins?

This roommate was later revealed to be Yūko. Suiko students [ ] Yūko Kanda ( 神田 優子, Kanda Yūko) Voiced by: Yūko is Sorata's younger sister and is in her third year of junior high school; she later attends Suiko. She borders on having a brother complex and wants to be spoiled by Sorata. At first, she does not like any of the other girls because she thinks they are taking her brother away, but after spending time with them, she at least accepts Mashiro because she 'has a few issues'.

As such, this review contains a fairly lengthy discussion of the plot, which I will highlight with spoiler tags. The main characters of Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo are Kanda Sorata, Kamiigusa Misaki, Shiina Mashiro, Aoyama Nanami and Mitaka Jin. Already, Sakurasou can be seen as a highly unique anime.

The misfits have many little adventures and antics and overcome many trials during their time at Sakurasou. As time passes friendships form and grow, bonds grow stronger, fights, love, tears, all come into play among the six friends of Sakurasou. Now Ill do that thing where you separate it into sections Art Actually, even though I'm not big on being able to tell huge differences and intricate details between different anime, this show's art really stood out. It felt smooth, clean, and beautiful. I daresay it was made to look so as to reflect the fact that they are all artistic students in their various fields, to match the level of beauty they themselves can create. The only other anime I know of with animation better than this would be Nagi no Asakura. So that's pretty darn good.

In the end, he and the other residents decided to protect the dormitory from being demolished. 20 'So We Can Keep Calling It Home' ' Konosaki mo Tadaima o Iu Tame ni' ( この先もただいまを言うために) February 26, 2013 ( 2013-02-26) As Sakura-sō residents finding hard to get signatures from everyone, they find out that Mashiro is the reason why the dormitory is set to be demolished and Ryūnosuke is less interested in helping them. At the end of the day Nanami finds out that she failed again to pass her audition, but tries to hide her disappointment by helping everyone on getting signatures. At the same time Maid reveals to Rita why Ryūnosuke doesn't want to help. She later calls Ryūnosuke, with Maid's permission and help, and encourages him to move forward and help everyone, which he does on next day, much to everyone's surprise and joy.

As she leaves, Yūko announces her plan to attend Sorata's high school the next year. Meanwhile, Misaki attends driving school. 8 'Let's Fire a Big Firework' ' Dodekai Hanabi o Agetemiru' ( どでかい花火をあげてみる) November 27, 2012 ( 2012-11-27) Sorata receives a letter from a computer game company stating that his proposal passed the initial screening and that he will be presenting it to the company. He spends time drafting and practicing his presentation with Sakura's residents.

Surrounded by these people, Usa never finds his daily life boring. (Source: ANN, edited) Yuuta Togashi suffered from chuunibyou while he was in middle school. When he graduated, he put that dark history behind him and forgot about it or he was supposed to.

Presumably, this should already be heaven for any rom-com slice of life lover; after all, there are five main characters and 24 episodes. The real thing that does it for Sakurasou, however, is the romance aspect of the anime. And by “doing it”, I mean doing a disservice. The romance in this anime is quite horrid, honestly. This is especially hard for me to say as I thoroughly enjoyed literally every single aspect of Sakurasou, except for its romance. I’m going to be discussing the story in mild detail, so if you don’t want to be spoiled at all, skip to the [endspoiler] tag. **[startspoiler] My first problem is Misaki’s relationship with Jin.

It makes zero sense to me, and Sakurasou’s execution of the pairing itself made just about the same amount of sense. The entire time, Kanda is as blunt as a block while Aoyama is as pitiful as a bug. It was just painful for me to watch Aoyama each time she tried to confess to Kanda.

4 'A World Changing Colors' ' Iro o Kaeru Sekai' ( 色を変える世界) October 30, 2012 ( 2012-10-30) Sorata tells Mashiro that he is planning to leave, which upsets her. That night, the residents of Sakura Dormitory celebrate with some children. After it is interrupted by rain, Mashiro gets news that she has lost the competition, and when Sorata tries to comfort her, he says something unintentional and runs out into the rain where he is consoled by Jin, who admits that he sometimes wants Misaki to fail so that she will not seem so far above him. Sorata admits he felt the same about the manga competition. The next day, when Sorata and Nanami are searching for cat owners, a woman shows up in a car and tells Sorata to get in. The woman tells him that Mashiro lost the competition because she ended the manga poorly by having one of the main characters leave. Sorata goes back to the dormitory and confesses his dream to create video games through the door to Mashiro, but finds her asleep.

Sorata's mother even tells him that she would welcome Nanami as a daughter-in-law. In the sixth novel, she fails her voice actor tryout and decides to reconcile with her parents before deciding her next step. She is able to convince her parents to let her continue her VA studies and returns to Sakura Dormitory for her final year of high school. She speaks with a when she is angry or flustered. Misaki Kamiigusa ( 上井草 美咲, Kamiigusa Misaki) Voiced by: Misaki is the resident of room 201, a third-year-student of Suiko who later attends Suimei University of the Arts.

However, by the time the show opens up on the present at the start of out story, rather than him making any progress, he has actually taken in like. 10 more cats. As I said, so at the open of the show Chihiro sensei (runs the dorm) asks Kouhai to go pick up a transfer student who will be moving into Sakurasou. That transfer student is none other than the beautiful, quiet, legendary artist Mashiro. He comes to find out she is essentially incapable of taking care of herself on her own, so in the same nature as his cats, he takes on the responsibility of being on 'Mashiro duty'.

Despite being a teacher, she often gives Sorata improper advice. Perhaps due to her disappointment, she has become cynical and lazy, often foisting undesired tasks, such as looking after Mashiro, on the unfortunate Sorata.

Along with other viewers, I have been left wanting more. Few other animes have managed to make me feel this way. And while I was watching it, Sakurasou provided countless laughs and a fair share of quality drama. Never was I bored at any moment while watching the series. The greatest thing about Sakurasou, however, is the fact that it manages to meet and then exceed the standard expectations of a romantic comedy slice-of-life anime; it truly is a fantastic production.

He finally goes out with Misaki during the fifth novel. He wants to become a playwright/script writer worthy of her artistic talents, and chooses to attend a university in to achieve his goal.
